Ahapdanda is the Sinama word for beautiful. This forthcoming photo book follows the life of Ana, a Sama Bajau girl, who desires to look beautiful.
Influenced by social media and the Badjao girl phenomenon, Sama Bajau teens in Zamboanga seek to adorn their faces with whitening creams and make-up and dress up for special occasions.
Pursuing beauty is an elaborate work for teens whose sense of worth and beauty is questioned by social media.
The photo book will be ready for pre-order in December 2024. All proceeds from the sales of the book will be donated to support the Sama Bajau community in Zone 5, Barangay Caragasan, Zamboanga City.
